David Magee joined the RIC after the Great War. I know he was an Ulsterman but nothing more than that.
This was taken in Co Londonderry or Londonderry City, I don't know which. David Magee is 3rd from left, standing. Note that he is the only constable wearing medal ribbons which strikes me as slightly unusual for this period. Perhaps he is a typical 'Tan' sent to reinforce regular RIC officers at a small barracks.
This was taken in the later 1920s so Constable Magee must have transferred to the RUC or perhaps the Specials in 1922.
I am not absolutely sure what ribbons these are. Probably War and Victory but the one on the left looks more like the 1914 Star in which case he is possibly missing a ribbon. Again, open to correction on this.
Presuming these are Great War medals, a quick search of the Index cards shows 2 David Magees in Irish Regiments: Pte 6242, Royal Inniskiling Fusiliers and Pte 12/18420 Royal Irish Rifles. Neither show up on the CWGC List of Fallen so presumably both survived the war.
I have Constable Magee's whistle. I will try and upload some images of that in due course.
