The 'peeler' on point duty referred to in the reports and Witness Statements was Constable John O'Connor, DMP No 10121 (192D); a 43 year old Mayo man from Kilflan.

His actions were credited by the authorities as saving Revell's life, although he was to wait nearly two years before receiving the highest award for gallantry in the DMP - the King's Police Medal.

Interestingly, his citation also bears out the family testimony to being shot seven times.
