Peter,
One man mentioned in the 'G' men poem was a Serg. Mannion. An Inspector Mannion was attached to 'G' div. in 1922. He identified the body of his own son who had been shot dead by a Free State Army officer, whilst in custody after an attack on Oriel House in late 1922.

Hi Watchman,
Perfect nom de guerre/plume you chose!
Here's a report from Irish Indo, 19 Sept 1922 [I need to sort out other pieces about this shooting, altho they are scanty on details. No surprise, given FS censorship].
I wonder who the dissenting juror, Mr James Chase, was and where he was coming from...
(I always find it highly ironic that senior Barristers would represent either side post-Independence and well after the Civil War under the British titled qualification, K.C. [King's Counsel]. Particularly when representing "the irregular I.R.A." as styled in this report).

Patrick Mannion's funeral report follows the first image, below.
It involved an I.R.A. firing party at his grave, a practice which has continued into current times.
I can certainly empathise with the grief of the young lad's parents, relatives and friends and comrades. But only wonder about how all parties felt as they stood on "opposing" sides around Patrick's grave that day......

CSM - you may be interested to see Inspr. McCabe mentioned as attending.
