"The latest shooting outrage in the city in which the intended victim was Sergeant Richard Revell of the G Division, was heard of with voicing of the greatest abhorrence by every respectable and law-abiding member of the community. Sergeant Revell showed the greatest fortitude, although severely wounded in the neck, left arm, and left leg, and never lost consciousness.

He joined the force in September 1895 from Carlow, and was attached to E Division, afterwards serving in A until January 1901, when he was allocated to the Detective Branch (G). He has held the rank of Sergeant since October 1914.

As Sergeant Revell has been engaged in purely clerical work for 6 years, he had not been on any duty during that period that would bring him in contact with any political organisation.  His many friends will be pleased to learn that he is progressing as well as can be expected under the trying circumstances, and it is hoped that with his great physical strength he will pull through alright.

There are doubts however, that he will have full use of his left arm again".
