Brand new here. You will have to excuse me as I am American...and may not know the correct names of various places...I am looking for genealogy help. Martin Heagan was my great-great grandfather. I would like to find his service record, not sure how to do that. I think he may have been born in 1813 in Roscommon. I think his father's name was Peter. He married Margaret Regan October 2, 1849 in Lislee, Abbeymahon, County Cork. My grandfather, John was born January 21, 1850. Not sure where they were living- maybe Letter? Recently I found an 1851 Valuation House Book record for Martin Hegan(different spelling) in Butlerstown, County Cork, where he was listed as Constable living in the police barracks. That year his daughter Mary J. was born. Sometime between 1851 and 1859 Martin's wife, Margaret Regan dies. In 1859, he married a woman in Bandon named Jane Farmer (Adams) who was also a widow. They went on to have 4 daughters. These daughters are baptized in "Ringrone," or Courcey's Country. I have all their baptismal records. I would like to find more information on where Martin lived specifically, when/where his first wife died, who her parents were and possibly where he died and is buried....not sure if that is at all possible. Hoping to visit in a few years when my oldest graduates from high school and would like to visit the places where my ancesters lived at one time. Thanks so much!
